Photoshoot EB [Feb 10, 2008]

Ever since my business trip here in Japan (Sept 2007), I have joined this forum site for Filipinos staying in Japan. It's a great forum since I get to learn many things on "how to live" in Japan. Threads about work, money matters, life in Japan, computers and technology et al are all there for Filipinos to ask questions about, and then fellow Filipinos who are "in the know" answer. Dominant members of the forum are housewives (having Japanese husbands) and IT professionals. Being a relative newbie in Japan, I get to learn a lot from them.

Ever since I have bought my DSLR, of course there always has been a desire to improve on my shots. However it was kind a bit hard for me to practice since I rarely go outside (Winter season). Thus, when some forum members who are photo hobbyists organized a photoshoot EB , I gladly joined in. I eventually invited Geoff to tag along, since he is also a forum member (but just a lurker) and also owns a camera (same as mine).

*Note: EB or EyeBall is a term used for meetups by people who really don't personally know each other - in our case are just co-members in a forum)

Our first stop was at Yamashita Park where I got nice pictures of seagulls.

Next was at Akarenga wherein there is a skating rink temporarily setup for the winter season. Another group of forum members where actually ice skating (I also want to try!) and so our group and theirs merged from there. (first 2 pics from 'mtwalton', the same person who gave us Valentine choco&cookies)

Afterwards, we went to nearby Chinatown, took pictures, ate dinner. Last stop which was already dark, in Minato Mirai. (grabbed from Alvin)

Smelly Pants

I just had a wonderful 3 day weekend, highlighted by the photoshoot EB last Sunday. Last night, I was able to cook a wonderful dinner for myself which led to my thinking that I am starting the week right.

I just felt all the positive vibes flowing into me on my way to work. But, Alas! When I opened my locker door, I was surprised to see no uniform in it.

We were given 2 sets of uniform each and I usually switch sets once a week. Being a Filipino, you may think it yucky if you don't change clothes daily (more so for a week) but here in Japan it's just usual to see people wearing the same clothes for days. Anyway, we work in a 'clean facility' and so we are all required to wear top to bottom uniforms (with sandals). Since we only use the uniforms inside at work (then change to civilian clothes before and after), I assure you my uniform's still clean and doesn't smell funny even for a week (the others actually don't change clothes for about 2 weeks to infinity).

What am I going to do without a uniform? I thought I had a reserve in my locker, but it turned out both sets were in my apartment, freshly laundered but useless for the day. I could have went back home to get those uniform but my work partner didn't allow me because surely I won't make it back on time.

Since I was desperate, I just went towards the locker room's laundry basket and randomly grabbed a soiled pair of pants (hoping no other employee saw me). My first pick was soo dirty (aka dugyot) and have a very large waist line, but I almost didn't care. Good thing the room became empty of other employees for a while that my partner tossed me a 'cleaner' pair from the same basket. Still, it stinked though. Perhaps the owner finally released it for laundry after 3 weeks of use. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers. I just had to endure it for the whole day.

If you were in my shoes (or should we say, in those pants) what would you do? haha. kalokohan

Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) and some snow pics

Woohooo! At last we now have high speed internet access! Thankfully enough, we're living in a mansion (apartment) that has fiber optic lines installed; thus, was able to take benefit of being able to subscribe with NTT's B-Flets program.

We're using VDSL connection wherein best effort downstream/upstream would be 100Mbps (aka connection speed). Actual speed (based on speedtest.net) turned out to be on the average at 15Mbps/7.5Mbps DL/UL. Not bad, still hehehe.

For the past 3 months, I have been leeching from neighbor's unsecured system. Most of the time, leeched connections get lossy and so we just turn back to our company-issued PHS internet connections.

Now that I now have stable internet access, it would be easy to upload stuffs such as pictures hehehehe. These pics were actually taken last Sunday (the 2nd time to snow here in Japan's Kanto region).

Apartment/Condo type units are referred to as "mansion" in Japan.

At night.

Sorry, I didn't come out during that day and so I only have pictures taken from our veranda.
