'Thesis' It!

Ok. This is it! What makes me busy this semester, you ask? Well, for one, it's thesis time! First of all, I would like to congratulate myself for being able to reach this point; actually, I'm still a quarter away from the peak yet. EEE 190, though its course title: Inspection, Trips and Seminars, spells like having fun; it is actually the first step towards a EEE undergraduate's major project, a legacy one would be able to leave behind.

Nothing beats EEE. Unlike that of other UP eng'g courses, proposal is one sem -- full implementation, another. That makes at least a year for an entire project to be due. To propose a topic is not easy to start with. Not with all the outstanding professors you have to deal with. They expect much from us. One may cry out loud for not being able to deliver an MP (CoE 115 maybe?), but your thesis project should be something harder than that in order to get an approval.

I am very thankful for being affiliated with a research lab such as IML [Intel Microprocessors Lab]. I can say with a straight face that I never had regrets in deferring my application in MOBOT. The kind of work done through IML is what I really had dreamed of as being a Computer Engineer.

Every week, we are set to have progress reports regarding our thesis topic. Our topic (yeah, we're 5) deals with the DLX ("deluxe") Microprocessor Architecture, to design it having multi-core capability. So there, my work as Records Committee Head in Inhinyero is about to end as the yearbook has been in its final layout already. Therefore, I could be able to concentrate more on my studies. Too bad that I would extend a sem due to my thesis (as I was not allowed to take 190 a sem earlier), as long as the end would justify the means; then, no problem. My extension would deal with only one subject, and that's 198, so I guess, it's still somewhat justifiable. Aside from that, I am free to take any other subject at my own free will. Perhaps I may pursue more Jap units or maybe basic Accounting courses in prep for MBA. With just a few units at my helm, I could end my very last sem as an undergraduate having fun and being fulfilled.

Appended: This is also one good reason for being in UP, particularly with IML.
